Following the much publicised ban of the 18.2 per cent Tokyo beer from the BrewDog brewery, the Scottish brewer has released a new beer which it claims is the strongest beer in the world. The Tactical Nuclear Penguin has a 32 per cent alcohol content, almost double the level of the now famous Tokyo beer.
Managing director of BrewDog warned that the beer should be drunk in spirit sized measures, saying it was about being innovative and pushing the boundaries. BrewDog were heavily criticised for their labelling of the Tokyo beer, and they have not made the same mistake again. The jovial label on the Tactical Nuclear Penguin bottles informs consumers that the drink is an extremely strong beer ; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. The Tactical Nuclear Penguin will be sold for £30 each.
Following criticism in the media of BrewDogs marketing of their Tokyo beer, the brewer has since launched a low alcohol beer, called Nanny State.
Despite the warnings on the latest labels, Jack Law of Alcohol Focus Scotland was unimpressed, labelling the beer a cynical marketing ploy, and questioning why a brewer would make a beer as strong as vodka or whisky .
