A new survey has revealed that Surrey has the highest average price of a pint of anywhere in the UK. The survey was carried out by the Good Pub Guide and revealed that the nationwide average price of a pint of beer in a pub is £2.68. The price of a pint was found to have risen by 10p in the last year. Meanwhile, the price of real ale has risen by 5.5 per cent since February 2008, largely due to tax increases.
Surrey was the only place in the UK to have an average price exceeding the £3 mark, with the average pint costing drinkers £3.01. London was second highest with an average cost of £2.90, compared with £2.85 in Berkshire, Buckingham and Sussex, and £2.80 in Hertfordshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent, Scotland and Suffolk.
Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and the West Midlands were found to offer the best value beer, with the average pint costing £2.40 a pint. Cheshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Shropshire and Worcestershire are also very reasonable, with an average pint costing £2.50.
The survey also revealed that food in pubs has become cheaper, with around one in three pubs offering cheaper food than at the same time last year.
