Drinkers from across the country will be in attendance at the Coventry Beer Festival this weekend. The two day event begins tomorrow at the Butts Park Arena, with more than 2,000 ale fans expected to attend. The festival has been given an Italian Job theme by organisers to commemorate the filming of the original Italian Job film 40 years ago. The sewer tunnels at Stoke Aldermoor were the temporary home to a busy film set as the minis sped through.
Mick Madder of the Coventry and North Warwickshire Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) voiced his excitement at the prospect of the event, which he says is growing with every year. He expects ale connoisseurs to attend. Mr Madder also confirmed that the independent festival is not restricted in which beers and ales it can and cant sell.
Beer drinkers will not be disappointed by the festival, with 97 brewers from across the UK showing off their beers. Belgian breweries will also be present, while there is plenty for non-beer drinkers to enjoy, with ciders, English fruit wines and perries available.
As well as commemorating the filming of the Italian Job, organisers hope to raise money in memory of former city pub landlord Ian McAllister who sadly passed away in January.
