Brauerei C & A Veltins opened its door in 1852, bought by Clemens Veltins, having taken over the Franz Kramer brewery. It was named after Clemens twin sons, Carl and Anton, who would go on to succeed Clemens and become the owners of the brewery in 1893. It is still in Veltins hands today, with Susanne Veltins taking over the brewery in 1994. Over the years the name has gained a big reputation and is now on the front of the stadium for Bundesliga team FC Schalke 04.
